Lipids in EVs: Membrane Constituents and Regulators of their Biogenesis and Release
Alicia Llorente, Oslo University Hospital, Norway
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Alicia Llorente (Oslo University Hospital, Norway) will join Targeting Extracellular Vesicles 2026 as a speaker.
Increasing evidence highlights the important role of lipids in determining EV structure, biogenesis, and biological function. As fundamental components of the EV membrane, lipids may contribute to membrane stability, curvature, and the selective incorporation of molecules. Knowledge about the lipid composition of EVs is particularly relevant for the development of EV-based drug delivery systems, and may also provide valuable insights for the design of other lipid-based nanocarriers. Furthermore, alterations in the cellular lipid composition have been shown to affect EV release. Changes in EV lipid composition have also been associated with several pathological conditions, underscoring their potential as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In the talk, our results on the lipid composition of EVs and the role of lipid-related pathways in the regulation of EV release will be presented.
